The Lewis Family "Cooler Than Country" (1995) |
![]() |
The Lewis Family has been long known as "The First Family of Bluegrass Gospel Music" for good reason. Aptly called "an American Original"; a self-contained wellspring of family entertainment for all ages performing exciting, inspiring gospel music in the immensely popular bluegrass format. The poise and professionalism of the Lewis Family's stage concerts, developed during thousands of TV and personal appearance shows, is equaled only by the members' offstage friendliness and sincerity. Their numerous honors and awards include induction into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, SPBGMA's 1994 Entertainer of the Year to "Little Roy" and the Masters Gold Award for Bass Fiddle of the Year to Travis Lewis.Three generations of family members continue to perform and carry on the legend which began in the late 1940's. "Pop" (Roy) Lewis continues as senior member and patriarch of the talented performing family, his youngest son, "Little Roy" is one of the top instrumentalists in bluegrass music.
